Cory Maye Video

To any readers who don't know the story by now, take 20 minutes to watch Reason TV's documentary on the story of Cory Maye. It's a tragedy on numerous levels and some of the video is just heartbreaking. If you're someone who thinks the drug war works, maybe this will help you reconsider.

Obama on GTA IV

"I was just catching the news this morning about Grand Theft Auto, this video game, which is gonna break all records and make goo-gobs of money for whoever designed it. Now, this isn’t intended for kids, although I promise you there are kids who are playing it, but these video games are raising our kids…

Across the board, middle-class, upper-class, working-class kids, they’re spending a huge amount of their time not on their studies, but on entertainment.

And so part of our job is going to have to be to inspire the entire country to say, ‘How are we giving our kids a thirst for knowledge?’ And turning off the TV set, and getting them to be engaged and interested, like their future really does matter on how well they do in school."

Let's list the themes of Obama's campaign included in some stupid speech about a video game.

1) Immediate mention of how someone is profiting from this game. Capitalism is bad.

2) The State of the US is a disaster; barack constantly pushes this point that everything about our country is broken. Now apparently video games are raising our kids! hahahaha that's good stuff outta you barack. madden and GTA are raising our kids. i could get into who specifically is not raising kids and bill cosby's addressed this, but i won't and neither will barack. not PC!

3) This isn't a theme, but how funny is this statement "middle-class, upper-class, working-class kids". kids are kids dumbfuck. and kids have fun. and if a parent wants to let their kids play some video games there's nothing wrong w/ that. not to mention most of the video game fanatics i know are the one's w/ 4.0s in school.

4) And this one takes the cake. "And so part of our job is going to have to be to inspire the entire country to say, ‘How are we giving our kids a thirst for knowledge?"

Your job as a politician is to show parents how to inspire their kids and more specifically tell them in what manner to do so? What a fucking arrogant prick. This idea that people can't take care of themselves is unique to the democratic party and worst of all is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

This isn't new stuff from Barack, just a new avenue for him to express his feelings that he himself needs to take care of all the stupid, apathetic, helpless Americans. Same old story, new example.
